"Taking shoegaze to a new level... breathtaking." Dean Jackson, BBC Introducing.
Magic Mountain was formed in Nottingham by James Percy and Ash Smart after the demise of their previous band, this dumb desire. After jamming in spare bedrooms and warehouses, the pair began writing a series of songs that embraced post punk, shoegazing, cold wave and synth wave. The essential ingredient, however, was passion.
Sarah Smart joined bringing flutes and synthesizers and as a three piece the band put together sparse, lo-fi demos and soon acquired gigs around London and the East Midlands regularly playing Symptomatic's Freak Scene nights at London venues such as The Dublin Castle, The Water Rats and The Bull & Gate among others and have supported Gary War, The Fauns and The Purple Pilgrims.
They developed their music further, layering guitars and synths to build a powerful wall of sound.
Between 2013-15 the band recorded five tracks at Latent Lemon Studio to form the Innocence EP. The EP mixes swirling, fuzzed guitars amidst ethereal keyboards and towering vocals that provide glimpses into a half lit world of dreams and memory.
The band grew a loyal following, gained radio play across Europe and America and were featured on BBC Introducing.
In 2017 they released their new single Breathless. An intense cut of melodic synth-wave with growling guitars, heady, dark synths and brooding vocals.
